We received some great news from Delegate Joseph Yost (R -- Giles, Radford, part of Montgomery and Pulaski), who has been a champion of providing a statewide health insurance option for Virginia school divisions, and Sarah Wilson, Director of the Virginia Department of Human Resource Management, that a sufficient number of school divisions have provided the needed data for the study of a statewide health insurance program for local school divisions, and that it is underway. It looks like we are on the way to reducing the cost of health insurance for many of Virginia's public school employees! Yost and Wilson deserve our thanks.

It's quite interesting to see what our two gubernatorial candidates are saying about public education on theirwebsites.

Finally, please join me in congratulating Brenda L. Sheridan, the 2013-2015 president of the Virginia PTA.
Thank you,

Virginia is on the cutting edge and is among the first states to offer online voter registration. Not only can anyone with a signature on record with the Division of Motor Vehicles register online, those who are now registered can enter change of address information online.

Click here to access these services.

This new technology will make registering potential voters as easy as pie. Please register your friends, family and colleagues to vote in Virginia's crucial November elections.

Remember, registering voters and urging their participation in elections is not a political activity, it is a civic duty.

The Washington Post ran quite a story about Virginia's home school religious exemption law. It is worth a read. And think, E. W. Jackson wants to pay folks to home school.

Our president had an excellent letter in Wednesday's Richmond Times Dispatch -- check it out.

The VEA Legislative Committee met on Wednesday. They were discussing what was going on in North Carolina, and Alison MacArthur of Frederick County quipped, "Don't NC me." It kind of stuck with me. If you don't know what the governor and legislature have done there, check this out.

Both the legislative and executive branches of government in NC are currently Republican.

In Virginia, we are but one election away from being NC'ed. Mark your calendar and plan to vote on November 5.

Thank you,
Robley Jones
